Flash Fiction #3

The end of the trilogy ;)

The snow was slowly falling as he watched her. So that was her, the runaway. He took in every sight of her, she was nervous, and then he saw the arrow fly and she was quick on her feet and running away. He smiled where he sat. A hawk watching a mouse scamper away.

"Run little mouse, run as fast you can," he whispered and took flight. She was a quick little thing, not at all as they had described her to him. All those women and servants shaking with fear. And then he had killed them all. He could not let them live. There were meant to serve and wait. He was gone for a little while and they forgot. He flew over the walls and landed in a tree. Soon she would come. The one that got away. He already had new slaves waiting for him at home, women willing to serve.

She got out of the city, it was a close call but she made it. And he followed her close. Poor thing did not realise how many soldiers were looking for the killer so he took care of a few of them, well a few dozen. He left them broken and dying all the way to her hometown. He took extra delight in that fact. That he led the soldiers right back to her. It was a week before she realized something was wrong, when soldiers were outside the city gates and the towers were burning. He still watched her and she was scared now. Wondering what went wrong.
“I went wrong little mouse,” he whispered to the wind and saw her shiver. Soon the rest if the city was burning and enemy soldiers were killing everyone. But he was sure to whisper in a few ears and it all led right back to her.

It was 6 months after the death of the king and the sun was shining. The crowds were cheering the new king and waiting for the execution. He had wanted to do it himself but it had been nice to see the city burn and her friends die. And now she would hang. Yes it served her right.
